If You’re Gonna Be An Author…

…You’ve got to be a Finisher — Marilynn Griffith.

Follow after the heart of the Creator. When God gives you a vision, He writes it in big letters upon your heart, so that you can see it. You feel it. And as you crawl, walk, and run with it (or towards it), the means, lessons, tools to bring it forth come into view. But you’ve got to move towards it…come in closer and closer to see it materialize.

Well, since I have very little…(as in none)…experience writing novels, I’ve got to position myself in arenas to learn how to write….surround myself with like-minded folk who are either on the same path, or have reached the end of the journey.

After attending an awesome Writer’s Conference this weekend, I am filled with many emotions right now. For one, I’m charged! Inspired to continue this course, be a finisher of what I start…no matter how daunting the task. The best-selling authors present (Kendra Norman-Bellamy, Tia McCollors, and Marilynn Griffith) shared golden nuggets of wisdom, what to do, what not to do, how to do…We participated in writing exercises, explored traditional vs. self-publishing….It was an amazing two-days of absorbing all I could from those who have traveled where I am going, and networking with men and women like myself at various stages of the journey.

The ladies kept it real with us. “Everybody’s got a story. Everybody’s got a great book.” But we were encouraged to discover why WE were chosen to write our particular story. What qualifies US to tell the tale we feel we must share. Find the theme or purpose for our book…are there different ways we can make that purpose come alive….just good stuff =).

So, after receiving some one-on-one assistance with my book, I have some rewrites to try. So far, the suggestions feel right, and the inspiration and creativity needed to pull it off comes easily and in perfect time, since my mind and heart are open wide to receive it. Ashe.Selah
